Taman Sari Gunongan (Jawoë Aksara: تامن ساري ڬونوڠن) or “Taman Putroe Phang” is a park of the Kingdom of Aceh Darussalam which was founded by Sultan Iskandar Muda (1607-1636) for his queen Putroe Phang who came from the Kingdom of Pahang. The original name of this park is Taman Ghairah as mentioned in Bustanus Salatin’s book. This garden was built because the sultan really loved the Princess of Pahang and so that the empress would not be lonely if the sultan was left to run the government. It is said that the construction of the park was a request from Putroe Phang, the king’s daughter who was brought to Aceh by Sultan Iskandar Muda after the Pahang kingdom was conquered.
