Hemorrhagic stroke is a specific form of cerebrovascular disease, and it occurs when there is bleeding within or around the brain. This bleeding can damage brain tissue and increase pressure inside the skull. Hemorrhagic strokes are less common than ischemic strokes but tend to be more severe and have a higher risk of mortality.
