Erbil, also referred to as Hewler and once known as Arbela in ancient times, serves as the capital and largest city in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region. As of 2020, the city has an estimated population of 1.5 million people, with the wider Erbil Governorate home to approximately 2,932,800 inhabitants.
