This girl met us on the road one early morning! She is a spotted hyena – she came up to us, showing great interest. Hyenas are fabulously intelligent animals with massive brains and one of the most complex social systems of any carnivore. They are known to be scavengers, but they do hunt and are very successful as hunters, even more so than lions! They really do deserve our respect! After checking us out, she slowly walked off, quite relaxed!
