The platysma muscle is a thin, sheet-like muscle located in the neck and lower face region. It is a superficial muscle that covers the front and sides of the neck, extending from the collarbone (clavicle) and chest to the lower jaw and the corners of the mouth. The primary function of the platysma muscle is to assist in various facial expressions, such as frowning and pulling the corners of the mouth downward. It also plays a role in tightening the skin of the neck, which can become more pronounced during activities like grimacing or straining.
