Mehmet Akif Ersoy is recognized as one of the prominent poets of Turkish literature and is known as the author of the Turkish National Anthem, “Istiklal Marsi” (Independence March), which supported the Turkish nation’s struggle for independence. He lived during the difficult times of the Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century. Born on December 27, 1873, in Istanbul, he passed away on December 27, 1936, in the same city.
